- Remove and rinse dentures after eating (be careful not to drop them – they are very slippery)
- Gently brush with a soft bristled brush under running water
- Soak dentures at night in a denture cleanser such as Polident® or Fixodent®
Brushing with too firm or hard of a brush can leave little scratches which help trap debris, causing staining and possibly bad odors.
It is best to remove your dentures at night to give your mouth muscles and gums time to relax and “breathe.”
Never use bleach to clean your dentures. Bleach is very corrosive and can cause porosity (tiny holes) that can trap food and debris, which again, can encourage staining and odors.
Be sure to store them at night in a safe, clean location – dogs LOVE to chew up dentures; we hear about it Every. Single. Day.
